Night City

Long-exposure photographs of Accra after midnight — the city as light, motion, and breath.

Night City is Prince El-Sha Martey's study of Accra between midnight and 4am. The city empties slowly and incompletely. There is always someone moving, always a light on somewhere. Night City is about what the city is when it thinks no one is watching.

A long-exposure photograph of a dual carriageway at night, orange street lights, light trails from passing cars.
Independence Avenue, 2:14am

All photographs are made on a tripod with exposures between 30 seconds and 4 minutes. No artificial light is added. The colours in the prints — the orange of sodium vapour, the blue of the pre-dawn sky — are exactly what the camera recorded.

A wide empty boulevard at night photographed with a long exposure, the road a river of light.

Night City will enter the catalogue in late 2026. Collectors interested in commission prints from the series should enquire directly.
